4 Tips for Decorating Your Shop

When you start your own business, whether you purchase a franchise, or start something unique of your own, sometimes you’re so focused on the business aspect that you forget about the aesthetic aspect. For those of us who aren’t natural-born interior designers, the visual aspect doesn’t always come easily.

However, the way that you decorate your shop will play a significant role in not only your customer’s experience but also your shop’s overall functionality. If you’re in the midst of decorating a new shop, or one you’ve had for a while, here are some of the best tips to help you through the process.

Be Practical

While creativity is highly encouraged, it’s important not to let yourself get too carried away. Remember, practicality should always be prioritized over aesthetic appeal, as it’s still a business after all. Make sure that items are placed in areas that won’t disrupt foot traffic, or be a hindrance as you’re unloading merchandise.

It helps to sketch out your idea before you execute it, as once you put it all in place you may find that it doesn’t actually work logistically.

Create an Eye-Catching Display

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of your shop’s decoration is your window display. Your window display is what’s going to make people come in and check you out. Use different colors, textures and height variations to draw attention to the items you think will attract new customers. Get creative with it, from props to signs, and make sure that it’s updated regularly.

If you can manage to get creative enough, people may even start looking forward to seeing what your next display will be. Have fun with it, and remember, the more you can make your shop stand out, the more likely you are to stand out as people pass by.

Define Your Brand

You want to make sure that your shop’s layout reflects who you are as a brand. Your decor should be sprinkled with brand-specific decorations that will reinforce your visual identity. Consider plugging your brand’s logo into a wall art, or even writing out your slogan.

Choose a color scheme that matches your logo, and don’t forget music too! Although music may seem nothing more than background noise, it’s a critical aspect of the in-store experience. Choose music that enhances the look and feel you’d like your brand to portray, and will leave customers feeling like they’ve entered your own personal brand bubble when they come in.

Don’t Forget Holidays

Remember, your decorations should be up to date when it comes to holidays and seasons. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, or Halloween, make sure that you embrace this season. People love a little bit of holiday decor because it can add a little excitement and variety to your shop’s interior.

Besides your decor, you can also get creative with themed promotions that are surrounded around the holiday itself.  For example, a Valentine’s Day promo could be called “a deal for lovers,”  or a Saint Patrick’s Day special could be called “a lucky charm of a deal.” You get the idea!  Get creative when embracing holidays, and your customers will love you for it.
